The soldering iron we use on the workshops

This is the Pinecil V2, the iron we use on all the pedal and amp building workshops. The big problem with the soldering iron market is that you can pay about £50 for a really good iron or £50 for a bad one. The Pinecil is a genuinely good iron at a sensible price, and a big step up from the basic irons most people have at home.

The iron itself comes in from the USA, the power supply from the UK and the tips from China, so I put the kits together here to save you paying three lots of shipping.

Please note: these kits are made up to order, so they’re not sent out straight away. I’ll be in touch once yours is ready.

What’s in each option

Iron and chisel tip (£35): Pinecil V2 iron with a D24 chisel tip fitted. The B2 conical tip it ships with isn’t that useful for this kind of work, so I swap in the chisel tip. You’ll need your own power supply: either a USB-C PD supply (65W or more) or a 12–24V DC barrel supply.

Iron, PSU and stand (£59): as above, plus the 24V DC barrel power supply we use on the workshops, and a stand. Everything you need to start soldering.

Iron, PSU, stand and extractor fan (£78): the full bench setup, with the 24V DC supply, a stand and a fume extractor fan to keep the solder smoke away from your face.

About the Pinecil V2

• Up to 88W, powered by a 12–24V DC barrel supply or USB-C PD
• Small and light (about 28g with tip), with a simple two-button control and display
• Takes Pinecil short tips and TS100-style tips
• Runs open-source IronOS firmware

Collection or delivery

I’d suggest collecting from the workshop at Unit 15 Jessop Way, Newark, NG24 2ER, especially if you’re coming on a course. If you’d rather have it posted, UK delivery is £10.
